Opting for a healthier lifestyle and achieving fitness goals are common New Year’s resolutions. But this year, why not go beyond personal goals and make a real difference in the Ship Bottom community? Consider making 2024 the year you join Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Company, a great resolution to make a difference for both yourself and your neighbors!

Whether a year-round or seasonal resident, joining Ship Bottom is an easy process. And the best part? Training and gear are provided free of charge.

“Join your neighbors and learn some new skills, boost your confidence in emergency situations — and have some fun while doing it,” said John Volpe, Ship Bottom Firefighter.

Volunteer with Ship Bottom

Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Company has a variety of ways you can get involved in 2024, whether you have no experience at all or are a certified firefighter or lifeguard who vacations in Ship Bottom.

Aspiring firefighters can undergo training to handle various emergencies such as fires, water rescues, and vehicular accidents. All necessary training and equipment are provided at no expense. Those who may not be interested in fighting fires can join the water rescue volunteers and put their life saving skills to work, safeguarding Ship Bottom, Brant Beach, and offering mutual aid to Surf City.

Additionally, teenagers can join as junior firefighters, learning the ropes of fire calls, hose operation, and ladder assistance, potentially leading to an active firefighter role upon turning 18. Individuals looking to help bring calm and order to stressful situations can join the fire police and help direct traffic and crowd control at the scene of emergencies. For those interested in non-firefighting roles, Ship Bottom welcomes administrative volunteers who can get involved with fundraising, event support, truck maintenance, and more.

“I volunteer because I love giving back to my community,” said Chief Todd MacLennan.
